About the IAPP

Rohan Bagai is a Senior Partner with AZB & Partners at its Delhi office. He holds an LLM from New York University.

With over 17 years of experience, Rohan is part of AZB’s Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMT) practice. Rohan has a wide range of technology and financial services experience with a special focus on Fintech, Privacy & Data Protection, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). 

Rohan has considerable experience in advising clients on issues relating to privacy and data protection under the Information Technology Act, 2000 (IT Act) and the Rules framed under the IT Act. In the last few years, he has been advising clients, including India’s largest private sector bank, on compliance requirements for processing personal data under the newly enacted Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act), and tailoring the UI/UX and the notice and consent mechanisms to ensure adherence with the DPDP Act.

He regularly advises clients on legal, regulatory and compliance issues relating to the launch of digital, e–commerce and payment businesses, including the operations of payment systems and introduction of new age electronic payment methods. Recently, he has also advised a technology company on legal issues connected with use of proprietary AI models and products/services that incorporate generative AI tools including risk mitigation strategies for their deployment.

He has authored articles and India chapters for various esteemed publications including Lexology Getting the Deal Through, Mondaq, Legal 500 etc. on a host of subjects including data protection, blockchain, cybersecurity, and regulations governing payment aggregators. He has also been the Co-Chair of India Planning Committee of the International Technology Lawyer's Association (ITECHLaw) in 2024-2025.

Over the years, Rohan has consistently ranked as the leading practitioner in Fintech & Data Protection in legal directories including Chambers Asia Pacific, Legal 500 Asia Pacific and IFLR1000.
